WebBBS

WebBBS is a Web-based bulletin board. WebBBS stores messages as simple text files and creates HTML pages "on the fly." This means that the message index can be tailored by the user based on date and/or subject (via built-in keyword search capability), and can be viewed as either a chronological or a threaded list. Administration is also a breeze! WebBBS supports automatic quoting of message text and e-mail notification of those who want to know immediately when a new message has been posted. It also offers an archive-only option and "cookie" support!

Really love this one. Easy to set up, no database needed, perfect!

Not for newbies. The source code requires a lot of modifications to make the board presentable. The author has a help forum but they are a tough crowd. Newbies tend to get beat up on a regular basis. But, if you have the patience, time and a thick skin, it's worth it in the end.

This is a great script. Some other reviewers have commented that the script is free, or that the author wants $50.00 for the admin script. That is wrong. The script is shareware, and if you use it you should register it. If you do register it the author will send you the admin script for free. Considering that the author never charges for upgrades, it's one heck of a deal.

Reliable and trustworthy. I have used it for over four years running. Usability is good and users are mostly pleased with it. It lacks a registration feature and it could use a few new "views" to give it a more modern look in comparison to its competition. I also wish there was a MySQL option to store messages. It keeps up with more expensive competition!

Each version brings more features and the support forum for everyone from the newbie to the code hack is second to none. Limited Admin functions for those running multiple boards (message transfer from board 'a' to board 'b').

The latest major update, 4.00 in December '99, now uses a DBM file, which works much more efficiently than the previous flatfile database.

Easy to install. Very fast board for a flat text database backend.

A great script with a super support forum should you encounter any difficulties installing the script.
