WebAdverts is a comprehensive system for maintaining a set of rotating banner ads on your site or for setting up a "banner exchange" between your site and others. WebAdverts keeps track of exposures and click-thrus for each banner, as well as of the average total number of exposures per day. Banners can be weighted to control how often they are displayed, and can automatically be expired from the rotation after a designated number of exposures, click-thrus or days.

Great script! I only wish it were easier to have multiple banners for one account.

This is a great script if you are planing less than 100,000 exposures per day. With 100,000 you will need something more than P-2 466 with 400Mb of RAM. Perl code is not optimised, but the rest is done very cool.

This script is great. Anyone with even just a small knowledge of installing perl scripts can install this one. When finished they have one of the best scripts for banner rotations available, regardless of the price. I use this and other scripts from the same place and have never gone wrong.

Incredible support on their forum. I got it up and running in 4 hours. It handles SSI, non-SSI, I-frames and J-script.

Very great script. The documentation isn't too detailed. A little bit of PERL knowledge is required. The web site needs to be updated much more.

Good script, but some things don't work. When you reset the exposures, it doesn't reset.

User: jmetroRating:July 22, 2000

Was a bit difficult to set up. I think the instructions could be expanded upon. You don't have to include SSI tags and rename all your pages to shtml, which is golden (my server required that). Once it's up, it seems pretty solid.

Although a bit overwhelming at first site, the instructions are actually extremely detailed making the script seem harder to use than it actually is. Best exchange script I've seen.

This script is an absolute work of genius! It handles over 6,000 hits/day from my site without even a sign of slowing down! All it really needs is keyword targetting and it would be fantastic!! The writer should get an award for this!!

This program can be used on a windows NT server. My only complaint is that I cannot seem to find any way to look at the number of hits to any one page when using the same banner ads on multiple pages.

Was a bit of a bear to set up. However, once running, WebAdverts is a *very* powerful piece of software. It'll sure take a lot of time out of setting up banner rotations and setting up advertisers.

I've heard a lot of people say this is a hard script to setup. I disagree. It has excellent resources within the scripts to help you out. The hardest part is setting up the "categories" to specify where certain banners are shown. And that's not hard, just time consuming.

User: wrightogRating:January 10, 2000

Great potential except that it uses too many server resources and slowed my site down considerably - once a more optimised Perl version is available it will be well worth the $50, but for the moment hold off on spending your money.

This is a good script and very easy to set up. The reason most people are having trouble with this script is because they are not reading the doc's txt. The lastest version 2.13 is even better.

Darryl Burgdorf has done an excellent job on WebAdverts -- consistent updates, excellent core features, banner uploads, and a more than simple installation. We are using it at freebanner and it is holding up to the traffic!

The script doesn't work on some servers -- even though the permissions are set correctly and the data directory path is verified in the configuration files. That can happen. Unfortunately, these folks are VERY arrogant about it: "One of two things is wrong. Period, end of statement." Don't pay for this resource until you get it working on your site -- then it's probably a great script.

This is one of the BEST banner rotation scripts I have seen and I have looked at about all of them. This one does not require SSI like most of them do, If you read the readme file it is not hard at all to setup and their message board is very helpful if you get stuck. This script is WELL worth more than the $50 they are asking for!

User: Nemesis280Rating:June 14, 1999
 User's Avg. Rating:# of Ratings: 1Alabama, USA
Although this script is quite difficult to setup, once done, it runs very well and has many options, including zones (where you can display certain banners on certain pages) and it allows new users to register their own banners. You can also set the script to confirm the new members before adding them to the rotation. I highly recommend this script for anyone who needs banner rotation on their web site.

This is absolutely an awesome script. It is a real pain to set up though. This can be taken care simply with another script called WebAssistant. After it is set up it really seems to be a powerful little guy. A great program.

User: eboyRating:March 14, 1999

While it took longer than expected to set up, it is still quite easy. I'm a greenhorn when it comes to Perl/CGI but I managed with minimum fuss. The docs could be clearer, but attention to detail will win the day. Overall, this can't be beat for $50.

User: michael666Rating:March 02, 1999
 User's Avg. Rating:# of Ratings: 11Illinois, USA
This is a great non-commercial script. It's incredibly ugly as far as its output, however, it does the job of processing 10s of thousands of exposures keeping perfect track. For $50 you can't beat it.

Installed in an hour, customized in two... Great script for experienced users... Nice BBS for help and quick suppport... Needs HTML template, however... The code is lean and fast, but I did get some errors when I really taxed the script.

Nice script and great for a banner exchange. The button next to the banner like LinkExchange makes it all the more authentic. Documentation is insufficient and some concepts are difficult to understand but on the whole it can be installed easily. Only two scripts to configure and three for the whole setup.

User: JJRating:September 27, 2003
 User's Avg. Rating:# of Ratings: 6Connecticut, USA
Although the script has many good uses, we had to debug it before using it, as well as change the HTML. It also ate up most of our resources.

Good, solid, powerful script. However, due to its dbm nature, WebAdverts is rather limited in how many banners it can display.

Well, this script is very easy to setup, I had to get it to rotate many banners and a link exchange. But the code is very long, I don't understand what they do and I am a perl programmer too. This script runs very fast. Hope that the readme file can improve as I don't understand what the group is used for. More security is needed!

User: bunniRating:January 06, 1999

This is an incredibly powerful and complex script. It is not really difficult to set up, but I have worked with people who thought they didn't have it set up right because it really takes some thinking through to grasp how all the elements work together. This is one script where you need to read everything on the website (there's a message board) and print out the docs, then go through it step by step. It's well worth it.
